According to Lloyd`s list research Panama takes first place in top 10 flag states 2021. Rafael Cigarruista, General director in Panama Ship Registry, considers that quality and compliance are more important than numbers.

The biggest rise in registrations came from Liberia, which is closing the gap with top spot holder Panama. The Liberian registry, led by Alfonso Castillero, surpassed the 200m gt mark as it grew its tanker fleet, mainly thanks to the influx of newbuildings.

The only change to the listing order from last year came from China, which squeezed past The Bahamas into seventh place. It registered the second-biggest gain in this year’s ranking.
